Life As A Cadet \

Morgan

"I began working at Camphin Boston in July 2010 after completing my first semester of a Bachelor of Business at the University of Technology, Sydney.

This was the first time I had been exposed to a workplace environment and so I was very grateful for the overwhelming kindness and support provided by the staff at Camphin Boston. Being a small firm with numerous cadets, I am provided with insight and assistance not only in day-to-day work but also with my studies.

Even though I am a first year cadet, I have undertaken responsibility on a wide variety of accounting jobs including audit and business services work. This has provided me with training and experience, which enables me to confidently undertake such work. Camphin Boston is a very flexible firm allowing me to have time off to go overseas on holidays and provides appropriate networks enabling cadets to work overseas, which I hope to be able to utilize."

“I have been a cadet at Camphin Boston for two years now, commencing January 2009. I started my cadetship straight after I left school. I started with the company with very little knowledge or experience of the real accounting world. This however made no difference to my now colleagues at Camphin Boston who made it very easy and comfortable start to a new career. As a new cadet I was welcomed with smiles and understanding. In my first year, I was challenged and rewarded by being trusted by my co-workers and the partners of the firm to complete work in not only taxation but also Superannuation Funds.

My second year brought on many more challenges in the form of audits. I was given the responsibility to take part in major audits and given the opportunity to complete a majority of them. Camphin Boston has given me many opportunities, challenges and experiences to help me gain the knowledge to complete my work to the highest level possible. It has also taught me values on a personal level.

I have now started my third year and with that the opportunity to be a senior on an audit. This allowed me to support and teach the newer members in our staff. Camphin Boston as a firm has proven to be much more than just another place of work, but an environment that is supportive and nurturing. I feel very blessed and honoured to be apart of the Camphin Boston family. Camphin Boston is a brilliant environment to kick starts a career for young up and coming accountants, as most of the staff have been through a cadetship program and are willing to lend a helpful hand.”

“After only 6 months of working with Camphin Boston, I can say with certainty my learning experience has been both surprisingly pleasant and enjoyable. Although beginning my cadetship after only one semester of university in 2010, I found an uneasiness stemming from my limited accounting knowledge and experience. The staff themselves were very understanding of my situation, and their approach proved to be helpful in easing the anxieties that arose when entering a new profession.

My cadetship with Camphin Boston has not just limited me to one field of accounting, but rather has exposed me to the diversity of the accountancy profession. The wide array of accounting skills which are applied with a Cadetship at Camphin Boston reinforces the theoretical knowledge I gain at university.

One of the greatest strengths of Camphin Boston, however, is their flexibility. Their approach toward one's personal goals and interests has motivated me to pursue my own interest in competitive swimming. I have found the company's culture has in fact encouraged my training and competitive activities rather than hampered them. Indeed, the Camphin and Boston philosophy has inspired me to excel professionally, in my studies, as well as in my personal pursuits.”
